Bethel Baptist Church was founded in 1827. Starting in a log structure, Bethel was made up of young men and their families of the Poplar Springs area. Pastor W.P. Richardson was the first pastor to serve our church and did so for six years. By the year 1904 or 1905 a new church building was needed, so plans and construction began! After this building was destroyed by a cyclone on March 28th, 1911 the idea to construct a concrete building was put into motion. By this time a new preacher had stepped in to lead the church family and ushered in the idea. Reverand Walter McIntosh built the frames for molding the concrete blocks needed for the new church structure. Since then, Bethel has grown and is currently growing. God is working and moving in His people, using them to show His glory and spread His love. It is our earnest prayer and desire that it is not our building that matters most, but the people who come to worship the Almighty God and their relationship with Him.
